Gov. Landry creates DOGE-like program for Louisiana

Writer: Staff @ LT&CStaff @ LT&C

In a decisive move to restore fiscal discipline in Louisiana, Gov. Jeff Landry has signed an executive order establishing a Fiscal Responsibility Program, modeled after President-elect Trump’s visionary approach to streamlining government.

Why It Matters:

The nine-member panel is tasked with cutting wasteful spending and identifying inefficiencies in the state budget, with a comprehensive report due by the end of 2025.

The Big Picture:

Louisiana is joining a growing movement of fiscally responsible states that are rejecting big-government excess. Following Trump’s lead, states like New Jersey and Oklahoma are also implementing cost-cutting initiatives to rein in bureaucracy and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.

Between the Lines:

Gov. Landry’s order highlights an alarming trend: Louisiana’s budget has skyrocketed to unsustainable levels, even as the state’s population has declined. This reckless expansion of government has left taxpayers footing the bill for a bloated bureaucracy.

Landry, a staunch advocate for conservative, pro-business policies, has made it clear that wasteful spending will no longer be tolerated. While his order doesn’t directly reference Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)program, Landry has publicly praised the initiative, telling WAFB that he is “absolutely convinced” of its effectiveness.

How It Works:

The Fiscal Responsibility Program consists of nine appointed members, including four from the Louisiana Senate and four from the Louisiana House. It will be led by Lafayette businessman Steve Orlando, a proven leader in the private sector and longtime supporter of Landry’s efforts to bring common-sense governance to Louisiana.

Zoom In:

This initiative is about protecting Louisiana taxpayers and ensuring that government serves the people, not the other way around. The group's responsibilities include:

✅ Reviewing state expenses and staffing levels to eliminate unnecessary costs.✅ Assessing non-essential state agencies for potential downsizing or elimination.✅ Identifying duplicative efforts across government departments.✅ Exploring ways to deliver state services more efficiently and at lower costs.

With Landry at the helm, Louisiana is taking a crucial step toward fiscal responsibility, smaller government, and a more prosperous future for its citizens.
