Venture Global LNG Unveils Ambitious Expansion Plan, Partners with Baker Hughes

Venture Global LNG, a leading provider of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG), has made a significant announcement that underscores its commitment to meeting the world's growing energy demand. The company has unveiled a long-term expansion plan aimed at increasing its LNG production capacity from 70 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to more than 100 MTPA of nameplate LNG export capacity. This ambitious initiative was revealed during the Gastech conference in Singapore and marks a major milestone in the company's journey to become a key player in the global energy sector.

To facilitate this expansion, Venture Global has entered into an expanded master equipment supply agreement with Baker Hughes, an energy technology company with a global presence. Under this agreement, Baker Hughes will provide additional liquefaction train systems and power island systems for Venture Global's future LNG export projects. This strategic partnership aims to leverage Baker Hughes' expertise in LNG technology to support Venture Global's rapid growth.

Venture Global has been making remarkable progress in its LNG projects, with cargoes from its Calcasieu Pass project already delivered to 24 countries. These deliveries accounted for approximately 10% of the LNG exported from the United States to Europe in both 2022 and 2023. Additionally, Venture Global's Plaquemines LNG facility, with a nameplate capacity of 20.0 MTPA, is on track to produce its first LNG in 2024, with the first four liquefaction train modules already received and construction progressing swiftly.

The company is also planning to commence construction of its CP2 LNG facility later this year following authorization from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Notably, 9.25 MTPA of CP2 LNG's 20.0 MTPA nameplate capacity has already been sold under 20-year sales and purchase agreements.

Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global, expressed excitement about the company's expansion plan, saying, "Now more than ever we are committed to our mission of delivering low-cost LNG at a larger scale to support the world's growing demand for energy security, prosperity, and environmental progress." He also expressed gratitude for the continued partnership with Baker Hughes, a world leader in energy technology.

Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes, emphasized the importance of natural gas in the energy transition, stating, "Natural gas will continue to play a critical role as a bridging and destination fuel for the energy transition." He also expressed his pride in Baker Hughes' collaboration with Venture Global and the company's plans to expand LNG production.

Venture Global's expansion plan aligns with its vision of providing clean and affordable energy sourced from North American natural gas basins. The company is also actively developing Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) projects at each of its LNG facilities to contribute to environmental sustainability.

Venture Global LNG's announcement of its ambitious expansion plan and its partnership with Baker Hughes signal a promising future for the global LNG industry and the broader energy sector. As the world grapples with increasing energy demand and environmental concerns, such initiatives underscore the importance of innovation and collaboration in delivering sustainable and reliable energy solutions.
